From the point of view of the weather the year was characterised by low rainfall in May and August and normal rainfall in June and July, when temperatures were one and a half degree below average (likewise in August) favouring special and favourable microclimatic situations in the valleys.
The health of the grapes during the season can be defined as fair, with a moderate presence of grape mildew and rare formation of oidium, whereas on picking the grapes were from good to excellent. The quantity of grapes laid to rest was fair, but less than those in 1998, whereas the withering conditions during the winter were vary favourable, with low temperatures and few foggy days.
