Travel Log: The Wonders of Thailand and Philippines
A great source of pride for the Tedeschi Family is the appreciation by foreign nations of the Tedeschi wines and the wine region associated with them. As a result, when we have the opportunity to visit far off cities and bring them a piece of the Valpolicella experience in the form of an Amarone wine tasting, allowing us to experience first-hand the growing appreciation for the Tedeschi product, we consider this among one of the greatest gifts the wine industry could purvey. A recent trip to Thailand and Philippines has only served to confirm this notion.
Our itinerary created opportunities for the celebration of our wonderful land and secular traditions while allowing us to familiarize others with our own wines.
For Sabrina Tedeschi, the protagonist in this travel log, the adventure was personal and led to visiting new places, learning about new customs, tasting new foods and above all meeting new people.
The first leg of the journey started in Phuket, a “not to be missed” destination when traveling in Thailand. We hosted wine tastings and classes as well as dinners that were held at different locations including the tapas restaurant Divino and the luxury hotel Kata Rock.
The next stop was Khao Lak, a tranquil and relaxing maritime city. The Casa della Flora restaurant organized a special dinner that featured our wines in a colorful culinary experience.
Our Thailand experience ended in the capital, Bangkok, a city of futuristic skyscrapers and neon lights. Here our wines were showcased at the Radisson Blu Plaza Hotel at a dinner in the prestigious restaurant Attico as well as in a series of master classes. Before leaving the capital, we paid a dutiful visit to the magical setting of the Mandarin Oriental, the oldest and most prestigious hotel in the city.
Our trip continued in the Philippines, an island country that thanks to its growing economy is sharpening its affinity for wine as is evident by the growing number of venues that serve wine. In Manila a great many wine lovers and wine professionals gathered to meet Sabrina and get an up-close and personal taste of the grand crus of the Valpolicella region. After a trip down the streets of Manila, a toast was made with a glass of Amarone before starting the trip back home to Italy.
A big thank you to all of the people of Thailand who so graciously accepted us into their midst and who made this trip an unforgettable experience filled with colors, flavors, aromas and above all human warmth.
